The First Post in the Israel/Palestine conflict series comes from the Slow Factory Foundation, a social justice organization, whose post was reposted on countless Instagram accounts, some with more than 100,000 followers.
The main issue with this post is how they describe the evictions of the people in Sheikh Jarrah, saying that Israel is building illegal settlements and unlawfully evicting those who live there currently. This post is false because, in 1874, Israelis bought and lived in the neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, and that in 1947 during the First Arab–Israeli War, the neighborhood was taken over by Arab "Squatters," who took the buildings when the original homeowners evacuated. The Squatters never left, and their children and families still live in those same buildings, with no legal documents from Israel cementing ownership. The evictions of these people are not Israeli colonialism, just legal proceedings that should have happened years ago.
